Write The Story

I don’t need another epiphany,
another insight that might
make sense of it all or give me
permission to be myself.

I want my life to be a good book,
but I don’t want to save revelation
to the last chapter.

I want the courage to live
in the spirit of full disclosure.

I pour my heart into poetry and
I know my words, once spoken,
become widows in the world.

But love lives on
even beyond the grave.

I know my metaphors become
orphans looking for a home.

But if you take them in,
they will love you for who you are
when nobody else is around.

So when I say, “my heart
is an open book,”

I really mean that I want you
to write the story with me.

Poetry has the capacity to enter the heart, to touch you on a deep and enduring level because it invites you into the world of your making. The Latin root of poet means “maker,” or “creator.” True poetry is co-created between the writer and the reader!

What does it mean to you to “live in the spirit of full disclosure?”
What would you like to live beyond you?
And what would you like it to evoke in those who survive you?
