Sweetness of Life

I turn toward the light,
closing my eyes
against the glare,
and feel the warmth
on my face,
soaking it in
as a morning gift.

It reminds me
that I need no more
than this moment
to be myself.

I need no accolades
for past accomplishments
and no promises
of future rewards.

It reminds me
that no correction
of my flaws
or redemption
of my sins
is needed for me
to live my truth:

Once you have
truly tasted
the sweetness
of life,
nothing bitter
can come
from your lips.
