Today Is The Day

Waves Rocks and Birds copy.jpg

I was awakened by Rumi ,
but his voice
had become birds
and the next gathering force
of wave hitting rock.

I heard him say:

Today is the day you feast
from the kitchen where God
prepares all nourishment.

Today is the day you die
as the one without wings
and begin to see
with unbiased eyes.

Today is the day you give up
the witness protection program
and walk into your life, exposed.

Have you ever awakened in the morning and felt like something in your life had changed? I have. It often comes in the form of a feeling that something important has or is happening, but I can't quite put my finger on what it is. I usually conclude that I must have had a dream that I don't recall. But when I read great poets, like Rumi or Hafiz or David Whyte, I sometimes get the same feeling, as if there is another, unencumbered version of me or as if I live another life that is richer and fuller than this one in a parallel universe that is just a breath away. Perhaps today is the day I become that other self or live that other life from the inside out.

What if you could, in the space of a breath, become a richer, fuller version of yourself? How would you know it had happened? What would be different in your life if you lived that unencumbered version of yourself?
