For as long as I remember, I have lived with a very strong sense of the beloved as a presence in my life. I have always felt that the door to a profound intimacy may open at any moment, with any person, and, in fact, happens all the time outside of our awareness. The clerk in the store may be your coach, the driver of the Uber may be your teacher, the lady in the line may be your lover, and the strange on the street may be your savior. The real story of our lives is in this subtext of the soul, where we are in constant conversation with each other. It is this conversation that informs my writing. The Song of Falling Stars is the seventh book in my Valentine’s Day Love poem series. At the beginning of each year I review all the poems written the previous year and select a curated set as a Valentine’s Day offering.
