The sea has always been a metaphor for the vastness of the Self and the unknown life that swims within us. The sea is predictable in tides and unpredictable in storms. So it is with our lives embedded in greater forces we barely comprehend. How do you deal with the sway of the sea and the changing tides in you and in your life?

Fire comes and goes, flares up in an instant and dies down into embers, ignites suns and streaks across the universe as light. It is a dangerous power, which is why it was considered a gift from the gods that commanded respect because fire gave humans these god-like powers to create and destroy. Air represents what is essential in our lives that we take for granted: the hidden assumptions, beliefs, and values upon which we operate, the network of connections we rely on in the web of life, as well the life force the flows in us and through us.  What in your life is so fundamental that it is like the air you breath?

It does not matter where you reside, in what country or city you might live, the earth is your home, your sanctuary, and the place of your belonging.  Nothing has a greater claim on you than the Earth, which holds you close through gravity and keeps you grounded in life. It is one of those things we mostly take for granted forgetting how much our lives depend on it.
